HP announces a new clustering capability for NonStop systems. NonStop systems are well known for supporting sophisticated clustering out-of-the-box, simplifying the effort to deploy applications within a fault-tolerant, shared-nothing server that scales from 2 to 16 processors. Beyond the internal clustering capabilities of each individual NonStop server, customers can take advantage of clustering of multiple servers in a highly scalable architecture that operates as a single system.

  • Clustering makes it possible for customers to smoothly meet the needs of rapid application growth, either from customer demand, end-of-quarter/end-of-year load increase, or mergers and acquisitions.
  • Clustering makes it possible for customers to architect application load balancing via front-end and back-end systems tightly coupled for efficiency.
  • Clustering makes it easy to deploy backup systems separated by long distances to assure application survival in case of major problems at one site
HP’s BladeCluster Solution offers a new level of clustering capability over prior NonStop clustering technology. BladeCluster Solution offers:
  • Higher performance among NonStop servers with up to 16 times better aggregate bandwidth
  • Clustering configurations with up to 24 NonStop servers (384 processors) operating as a single system image
    • Clustering topologies with up to 3 zones
    • Clustering of up to 8 NonStop servers per zone
  • No application change or system downtime is required to deploy this product set for existing clustered NonStop servers
  • Support for long-distance separation of up to 25 KM between zones
  • Support for distances of up to 125 meters among servers in a zone
  • Leverage of NonStop’s ServerNet III technology and bandwidth
  • Improved manageability to simplify control and support of clustered NonStop servers
The BladeCluster Solution is shipping in May 2009 with local clustering of up to 8 HP NonStop Integrity BladeSystems in a single zone. Both commercial-grade and carrier-grade HP NonStop Integrity BladeSystems are supported in this release. Additional capability will roll out in the second half of 2009, supporting:
  • Clustering of other NonStop server platforms
  • Connectivity options to other previous NonStop clustering technologies.
  • Long-distance clustering (up to 25 KM)
The product IDs for BladeCluster Solution include:
  • BL8155-04    Cluster Switch
  • BL8154          Advanced Cluster Hub
  • QSZL             Software license for single zone clustering
HP‘s NonStop customers deploy some of the most business-critical systems in the world, especially in the telecommunications, finance, and health care industries. These businesses cannot afford for their systems to go down. Moreover, they cannot afford to limit service because of unexpected demand, disasters (such as a hurricane or earthquake), or even single-server downtime. BladeCluster Solution meets these demanding requirements.
