HP is announcing the end of sales of the VT5902 Virtual TapeServer 7U server. The VT5902, based on the HP Proliant ML530 7U server, is one of two different HP ProLiant server models offered as part of the HP Virtual TapeServer product set used with HP NonStop servers. The VT5902 has been discontinued from sales because HP has ended sales of the ProLiant ML530.
The end of sales is effective immediately. New orders for the VT5902 will no longer be accepted. Instead, orders for a fully compatible replacement product, the VT5900-A, will be accepted beginning in September 2004.
The VT5902 7U server product became available at the end of 4Q 2003 along with all the other products that make up the Virtual TapeServer product set. With an internal disk storage capacity of up to 1.7 terabytes, 8 SCSI I/O ports, and 2 Fibre Channel ports, the VT5902 provided substantial flexibility in the amount of internal and external RAID array–based storage capacity and virtual and physical tape connections.
The replacement product for the VT5902 is also a ProLiant server. The VT5900-A is based on the ProLiant DL585 server and will deliver similar RAID storage and tape connection capabilities through its 4 internal disk drive slots, 4 Fibre Channel I/O ports, and 12 SCSI I/O ports.
