HP announces the availability of HP Ultrium LTO 460 (Gen 2) tape drives for use with HP NonStop S-series servers.
The HP Ultrium LTO 460 tape drive delivers the highest performance and capacity of any tape drive offered for use with NonStop S-series servers to date. The Ultrium 460 tape drive is the latest generation of the HP Ultrium tape drive family, with a single cartridge capacity potential of 400 gigabytes and a transfer rate of up to 60 megabytes per second (assuming two-to-one data compression). It builds on the success of the HP Ultrium 230 and Ultrium 215 drives, reinforcing HP’s market-leading position in tape drive products. It provides unprecedented levels of performance, capacity, and reliability.
The Ultrium LTO 460 tape drive product was adapted for use with NonStop S-series servers in partnership with HP development partner Tributary Systems.
The Ultrium LTO 460 tape drive product is available in three configurations for use with NonStop S-series servers: an auto-cartridge loader (ACL)-equipped model for use in a NonStop S-series tape enclosure, an ACL-equipped model for standalone table top use, and a model for use with a CTL700 or CTL700M tape library. Product numbers and complete ordering information are provided below.
The Ultrium LTO 460 tape drive product provides a replacement path for the discontinued 5259 Super DLT tape drive used in the CTL700 and CTL700M tape libraries, which was discontinued from sales on June 30, 2003. Customers that choose to replace their 5259 tape library–mounted Super DLT tape drive with an Ultrium LTO 460 library-mounted drive must be made aware that the two tape formats are unique and are not interchangeable. A tape migration strategy and plan will be required for such customers.
