New 4619 disk drive introduced
Compaq introduces a new 15,000-RPM, 18-gigabyte disk drive for NonStop S-series servers.
The new 4619 disk drive addresses the key requirements of the OLTP market segment, which are low price and high performance to cost-effectively deploy multiple access arms (disk drives) to support massively parallel high-volume OLTP applications. The 4619 disk drive will make significant contributions to OLTP.
The 4619 disk drive delivers higher performance than any past NonStop disk storage product through its 15,000-RPM rotational speed and reduced seek times. Disk random I/O throughput performance on a NonStop S74000 server can be as much as 25 percent higher than with any earlier 10,000-RPM NonStop disk drive product, depending on a customer’s specific application. The 4619 disk drive takes the place of the 4609 disk drive.

4608 disk drive discontinued
Compaq announced in mid-January 2002 that the sale of this 7,200-RPM, 8.8-gigabyte disk drive product has been discontinued. Effective January 16, 2002, the 4608 disk drive is no longer available for order or shipment.
4609 disk drive discontinued
Compaq is now announcing that in conjunction with the general availability of the 4619 disk drive, the 4609 will be discontinued from sales. The 4619 replaces the 4609 as the NonStop Enterprise Division’s high-performance disk drive product, well suited to meet the performance-centric requirements of the OLTP market. The date the 4609 will be discontinued from sales is planned for April 2002, although the product will remain generally available as long as on-hand inventory allows.
4637 disk drive price reduction
Effective February 1, 2002, the U.S. list price of this 10,000-RPM, 36-gigabyte disk drive is reduced to US$3,000. This price reduction puts NonStop disk storage product pricing in a very competitive position relative to similar hardware offerings from other major suppliers of enterprise-class computing platforms.
