NonStop and Data Sanitization

HP offers a product to help NonStop customers sanitize the data on disk drives in order for the customer to retire, redeploy or return the media to HP.  The HP NonStop Data Sanitization product is available for NonStop S-series servers. Offered as an independent product, Data Sanitization, provides a new guided procedure within OSM for sanitizing disks.

Key features provided by this product include:  

• Overwrites data on the disk in accordance with US Department of Defense (DoD) Standard 5220 22-M -- completing at least three overwrite passes including one with random characters.
• Allows users to specify the number of “write” passes and specific “write” patterns to be used on the disk’s data enabling more sophisticated data overwrite patterns than the DoD standard
• Takes advantage of low-level disk interfaces to provide a very efficient data sanitization solution
• Provides a report detailing actions taken for customer record keeping and audit purposes

HP also offers a program called the Data Retention Program for customers who wish to keep their retired disk drives in house rather than returning them to HP for refurbishment.
