One of the leading products utilizing open source software on HP NonStop servers is a deep port of Apache Tomcat 5.0.28. HP NonStop Servlets for JavaServer Pages (JSP) Version 5 (NonStop Servlets for JSP Version 5.0) Software has continued the tradition of using the Tomcat source to provide reliable/scalable servlets and JSP capability on NonStop servers.

| Riding on its HP iTP WebServer base, NonStop Servlets for JSP Software takes advantage of HP NonStop Transaction Services/MP (NonStop TS/MP) Software to deliver easy-to-use Java™ Servlets and JSP functionality for applications that are intended to dynamically arrange data on client devices, especially browsers. |

| Note: In order to align the NonStop Servlets for JSP version number with the Tomcat version number, we have gone from NonStop Servlets for JSP Version 3.0 to Version 5.0, artificially skipping (the nonexistent) NonStop Servlets for JSP 4.0. |

| NonStop Servlets for JSP offers compatibility with the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) development and runtime environment by supporting the Java Servlet 2.4 and JSP 1.2 application program interfaces (APIs) as well as directory structures and runtime management in a servlet container. |

| Installation, configuration, and deployment of NonStop Servlets for JSP Software are made easier with the servlet container. The container houses all resources (HTML, images, Java Servlets, and JSP) related to a specific application in a single protected location and manages the life cycle of those resources, including context and multi-threading. |

| NonStop Servlets for JSP 5.0 works with both current versions of NonStop Server for Java—Versions 4 and 4A—and inherits the higher performance of this product’s Java Virtual Machine (JVM). |

| In addition, Version 5.0 has increased performance over Version 3.0 of the software: |

- The average request throughput in this release has increased by more than 70 percent compared to NonStop Servlets for JSP 3.0 using the exact same performance test environment and setup.
|
- Servlets are on an average 7.6 percent faster (measured using the total request path length).
|
- JSPs are on an average 14.3 percent faster (measured using the total request path length).
|
| A significant enhancement with Version 5.0 is its ability to monitor/control NonStop Servlets for JSP servers in real time. Using JMX technology and the Manager web application, you can query container status and the status of an individual NonStop Servlets for JSP ServerClass process. You can manage internal objects (e.g., servers, services, hosts, contexts, loggers, and other resource entities). In prior releases, NonStop Servlets for JSP required you to bring down the entire container to modify container objects. With the support of JMX MBeans for manageability, objects can now be modified while the container is running. This arrangement enhances the NonStop Servlets for JSP overall container availability. |

| Version 5.0 is being released on HP NonStop S-series servers initially. It will then will be available on Integrity NonStop NS-series servers: |

- NonStop S-series server (SJ88v5/SJ89v5)
|
- Integrity NonStop NS-series server (HSJ88v5)
