HP announces the end of sales of the Nomadic Disk technology for HP NonStop S-series servers. Nomadic Disk technology was first introduced in 1995 for use with NonStop K-series servers. The Nomadic Disk product set has provided efficient management of planned system outages and fast recovery from unplanned outages. In the Nomadic Disk technology environment, mirrored disk drives for a production NonStop server could reside at the site of an alternate server located up to 40 kilometers away.
Replacement technology
For customers that have a current or future requirement for remote disk storage, two different options may be explored as replacements for Nomadic Disk technology. All of the functionality of Nomadic Disk is available directly through the use of HP StorageWorks XP Disk Array. Moreover, for increased application availability the StorageWorks XP Disk Array and a second system can be used in conjunction with HP NonStop RDF/Zero Lost Transactions (ZLT) Software to make a second copy of the database available without risking the loss of any committed transactions, even in the event of a catastrophic failure at one of the sites.
Customers should also be made aware that it is HP’s policy to provide support for a minimum of five years following the last sale of the product. This is the usual HP practice, supported by a statement of policy on this topic.
